Frequently Asked

Your Questions, Answered

The essentials about therapy, rates, insurance, and getting started.

How much does therapy cost?

Rates depend on your clinician's level of licensure. Licensed Providers are $150–$220, Residents in Counseling are $100–$200, and Student Counselors are $40–$100 (private pay only). Sliding scale available for uninsured or high-deductible clients. Full breakdown at our rates page.

Do you take insurance?

Yes. We're in-network with Aetna, Anthem, United Healthcare, United Student Resources, and Sentara. We also accept private pay and offer a sliding scale. Reach out and we'll help verify your coverage.

Do you offer teletherapy?

Yes — we offer teletherapy to clients anywhere in Virginia, alongside in-person sessions at our Charlottesville and Richmond offices. For many clients, virtual care is just as effective and far more accessible.

What's the difference between couples therapy and the Couples Workshop?

Couples therapy is ongoing, individualized care with no fixed end date. The Couples Workshop is our signature 5-session program to strengthen communication and refresh connection — ideal for pre-marital prep or long-term growth. The Workshop is not recommended for couples in high-conflict situations; couples therapy is the better fit there.

Are you LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent affirming?

Yes, without exception. We are openly LGBTQ+ affirming and practice from a strengths-based, neurodivergent-affirming framework. We do not practice or endorse any form of conversion therapy.
